In December 2022, the Morrow County Commissioners formed the Morrow County Development Authority (the "Development Authority") which was created under the Ohio Revised Code (ORC) for Port Authorities as a result of the
2022 Strategic Plan that the county commissioned. Port Authorities are useful economic tools that local governments can use to promote or support economic development. Under ORC Section 4582.01-4582.20 the Development Authority is authorized to promote "activities that enhance, foster, aid, provide, or promote transportation, economic development, housing, recreation, education, governmental operations, cultural, or research within the jurisdiction of the port authority." The Development Authority aids in the development around Morrow County by offering the Sales Tax Exemption Program (STEP) and by making recommendations to the Morrow County Commissioners regarding tax abatements.
The Development Authority holds regular board meeting on the third Thursday of every month at 1:00pm in the Hearing Room of Morrow County Commissioners, 80 N. Walnut Street, Mt. Gilead, OH 43338.
